ABB signs electricity deal with North Korea
The Swiss-Swedish engineering group ABB has signed a deal with North Korea to modernise the communist country's dilapidated electricity network.
The official North Korean news agency said the agreement also covered cooperation in producing electric machines and equipment.
It was signed in Pyongyang by ABB chief executive officer, Goran Lindahl.
ABB said in January it had received orders worth $200 million (SFr362 million) to deliver equipment and services to two nuclear power stations in North Korea.
The 1,000-megawatt power stations are being built under an agreement with North Korea and the United States.
An ABB spokesman in Switzerland confirmed that Lindahl is in North Korea to discuss the modernisation of the country's electricity network but was unable to give any details of the reported deal.
